Zakynthos Beaches Map

How to read this map

Pin colour is the cluster — the group of beaches that genuinely belong together on the road, which is not always the group that looks adjacent on a map. Porto Roxa and Korakonisi are about 2.5 km apart along the shore and 33 minutes apart by car, because every west-coast route climbs back to the island’s spine before descending again. The clusters here follow the road network, not the coastline.

A larger pin means the beach has a full guide on this site. A smaller one means the pin is currently the whole answer: the location, the surface, the access level and whatever the state register records.

Coordinates come from the Greek bathing-water register wherever the beach is registered — 34 of them are — because those are the government’s own sampling points rather than a travel site’s guess. Where the official point sits offshore or inland, the map shows a separate visitor pin on the sand.

What the filters actually test

Each filter is a rule against the data, not an editorial mood:

• Sandy — the surface is sand or sand-and-pebble. Note that Navagio is limestone gravel and Porto Limnionas, Porto Roxa and Korakonisi have no beach at all.
• Family — a family rating of 4 or 5, which leans on the register’s measured distance to the 5 m depth contour rather than on adjectives.
• Snorkelling — a rating of 4 or 5. This inverts the fame ranking: the seven most-visited sand beaches all score 2, because a gently shelving sand shelf has no reef, no rock and no relief, and it clouds as soon as anyone walks in.
• Reachable by bus — a KTEL route actually reaches it. No route serves the west coast at all, and in May and early June no route runs on a Sunday.
• Step-free — level access, or one of the four SeaTrac units installed in August 2026. Before that month the island had none.

What is deliberately not on this map

Places that other guides list and the evidence does not support. Klimatia is not a Zakynthos toponym — the name belongs to a Kefalonian bathing water 60 km north. Porto Azzurro is a beach bar 93 metres from Porto Zoro, not a beach. The Mizithres are 130–200 m sea stacks with no shore, which OpenStreetMap mislabels as a beach. And most of the named “sea caves” on the west coast trace to a single visiting mapper’s labels from one boat trip in 2023, several of them renamed from placeholders within eleven minutes.

Leaving them off is a decision, not an omission.
